Meeting in relation to Bann River walk

-

Camolin Development Association are hosting an information evening to outline the progress and plans regarding the exciting development of the Bann River-Eco Walk.

The information evening will take place on Thursday, September 27, in Camolin Hall at 8 p.m.

The development Association have received grant aid under The Village Renewal Scheme to create a Biodiversity Park and Eco trail and have brought in the expertise of folklorist and filmmaker Michael Fortune who will give a public presentation on the background to St Moling and the legacy he left behind.

For those of you who don’t know, St Moling was a seventh century saint who was born in the ancient territory of Hy Kinsellach, an ancient Gaelic kingdom which encompassed parts of the current counties of Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow. Moling was the Bishop of Ferns and there are many placenames in Wexford that derive their name from the man; Camolin, Monamolin and Knockskemolin near Kilmuckridge are just three within North Wexford. His name is also found in other counties including Mullinakill (Kilkenny), St Mullins (Carlow), Tigmolin (Kildare) and Kilmalin (Wicklow).

If interested and would like to find out more about the man, join Michael on Thursday where you will hear first hand accounts of folklore relating to him as well as finding out about the ancient ‘Book of Mulling’ which is housed in Trinity College.

Admission is free.
