Farewell to Anne who retired from Gorey Hospital

-

Colleagues, past and present, from Gorey District Hospital held a retirement party to bid a final farewell to Anne Fitzpatrick.

Anne, who is from Buckstown, worked as a Multi Task Assistant in Gorey Hospital for a total of 43 years.

More than 20 staff, and family members, held a party in the hospital for Anne who’s last day was on Wednesday.

‘I really enjoyed the work I did in the hospital and I will definitely miss the patients and the colleagues,’ said Anne, who has been working in the hospital since she was 16-years old.

Anne attended Monaseed National School, followed by Carnew Vocational School where she graduated when she was 16. After secondary school, she got a job as a Multi Task Assistant in Gorey Hospital and never looked back since.

‘The hospital has seen some big changes,’ said Anne. ‘When I first started it was a maternity unit, now that is gone and it serves as a hospice care and respite.’

The hospital was built in 1940 to replace the old ‘Fever’ hospital and provided a maternity unit and other medical services.

As a Multi Task Assistant, Anne’s work varied from dayto-day. She said she worked in the kitchen or did a bit of house keeping.

Anne, who said she will enjoy her time off work, would like to thank all who gave her gifts and cards and Gorey Hospital for the party and well wishes.
