Gorey Active Retirement meet in the Loch Garman Arms on Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

All welcome to attend to find out about the organisati­on and its activities.

A tea dance will be held on October 14, in the Rhu Glen Hotel. Price is €35 including transport and meal. Please pay John in the Loch Garman Arms on Friday.

There will be an evening of dog racing in Shelbourne Park on October 18.

The price of €45 includes three course meal, race card and transport.

The usual activities of bowls, darts, walk, Go for Life, art, Irish are on every week.

Please pay annual membership as soon as possible to make sure you are insured when participat­ing in any activity, break, trip or holiday.

Work matters

The launch of Gorey Library Work Matters Space by councillor Pip Breen will take place on Tuesday, October 2, at 4 p.m.

This will be followed by Event Tourism in Ireland and Market Insights with Mintel Ireland at 4.30 p.m. Mintel will present market insight into Events Tourism including music, food, arts and theatre, countrysid­e and traditiona­l events, family and children. Book club

Page Turners Book Club resumes in Gorey Library, on Tuesday, September 25, at 3.30 p.m. New members are always welcome.

Page Turners is suitable for nine to 12 year old. The choice for September is ‘Return to the Secret Garden’ by Holly Webb. Plenty of copies on order in the library. Call 053 94 21481 for more informatio­n.

Bibi Baskin

There will be an evening with Bibi Baskin on Tuesday, October 23, at 7.30 p.m. in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

Bibi is an motivation­al speaker and former TV and radio presenter. This is a wonderful opportunit­y to hear from Bibi about life, wellness, wisdom, stress management and much more.

She will talk about how her threeweek holiday to India last 15 years and how she embraced and learned so much from the Indian culture which she now applies to her life and shares with others.

There will be a Q&A session afterwards.

Poetry

Gorey Writers Group in associatio­n with Crow Duo will provide an evening of performed poetry readings with musical accompanim­ent.

It will take place in Gorey Library, on Thursday, September 27, at 7 p.m. Call the library on 053 94 21481 to book a place.

Down to Earth

The first meeting of the year will take place on Wednesday, September 26, at 7.30 p.m., in the Cosy Cottage Café and Hidden Garden, on Esmonde Street.

The talk will be based around ecology and sustainabi­lity.

NWHS

The North Wexford Historical Society lectures commence on Friday, September 28, in the Methodist Church Hall, Market Square, at 7.30 p.m.

There will be a lecture from Dr Ida Milne from Carlow College on the influenza epidemic (Spanish flu) that decimated Europe at the end of World War 1.

The talk will deal with how north Wexford fared during the worst flu pandemic the world has ever known.

Please note for this night the group have changed venue from the library and switched to a Friday night.

Coffee day

There will be a coffee morning in aid of the Irish Cancer Society in Gorey Methodist Church Hall, on Saturday, September 29, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more informatio­n call Steven on 087 9259565.

Fun run

The annual Loreto Primary School 5km Family Fun Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, October 7.

Registrati­on is from 11 a.m. on the day and cost €10, with the race commencing at 2 p.m.

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in both male and female categories. There will also be a raffle, tea, buns and cakes on the day as well as the option of fancy dress.

It is great fun for all the family, so come along and support this fundraiser in aid of the school.

Gorey ICA

The Gorey ICA guild meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 9, in the Loch Garman Arms, at 8 p.m. New members welcome.

Musical

Gorey Musical Society’s show for this year will be ‘Calamity Jane’.

Auditions will take place on Saturday, October 13, from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. in Masonic Hall.

Course rehearsals will begin early November. The musical will take place in April.

Book launch

Minister Michael D’Arcy will launch Carina McEvoy’s book ‘Sometimes I worry... how about you?’ in Gorey Library, on Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m.

The book is aimed at guiding children and parents in managing childhood anxiety.
