Superheroes run to the rescue for hospital

-

Many local superheroes have raised a generous amount of €2,090 for The Friends of Gorey District Hospital.

During the Gorey Market House Festival in August, a new event was introduced called Superhero Fun Run that was held on Gorey’s Main Street and Town Park and Showgrounds. The family friendly run was in aid of the local worthy cause, who received the cheque from the Festival Committee on Tuesday evening.

Patricia Masterson, chairperson of The Friends of Gorey District Hospital, was at the reception, along with many other committee members, to receive the proceeds.

‘The money will go towards our overall fund that we have,’ said Patricia. ‘It will be released after our new building is finished and we will put the money towards the running of that.’

The Friends of Gorey District Hospital committee are thrilled with the donation and would like to thank the festival committee for their hard work. They said they are extremely grateful for the proceeds.

During the fun run, participants were asked to be a hero for the hospital and come dressed as their favourite superhero.

They began on the Main Street and walked a total of 2 km which took in a loop of the town park and showgrounds and finished at the Main Street. Entry was by donation, but some participants purchased the Superhero Pack for €10.
