Golf Club raffles off €20k worth of holidays

- By MARIA PEPPER

A raffle with €20,000 worth of holiday prizes doesn’t come along every day so it was no surprise that a large gathering turned up for a Wexford Golf Club fundraising draw with Mayor Tony Dempsey ceremoniously pulling the winners from the drum.

Excitement surrounded the event and it was no wonder with prizes such as a Mediterranean cruise, two weeks in Mexico and an all-inclusive stay in a Mauritious golf resort at stake. The Golf Club organised the Super Raffle as a major fundraiser in aid of club development and and is now hoping it will become an annual affair.

Tickets cost €50 each and of the 1200 printed, members managed to sell 800, to cover the cost of the prizes and make an equivalent amount for the club. For every five tickets sold, the name of the seller was entered into a draw for a free club subscription for 2019 which was won by club president John Quigley.

The first prize of a luxury Mediterranean cruise was won by Mary Walsh; the second prize of 14 nights in Mexico went to Bart Zalwert and the third prize of seven nights all-inclusive in Mauritius Golf Resort was won by John Pierce.

The fourth prize of a Ski Holiday was won by Catherine Lynn; fifth prize of five Nights in New York was won by Willie Cleary and family; sixth prize of five nights in Dubai, Angela Kelly; seventh prize of four nights in Prague, Mary Hatton; eight prize of four nights in Rome, Janet Browne; and ninth prize of four nights in Krakow, Terry Lyons.

A social night was held in the club to coincide with the draw and musical entertainment was provided. ‘It was a great success and we would like to thank the organisers of the raffle for putting so much time and effort into it and everyone who sold and bought tickets’, said a spokeswoman at the Golf Club.
