Heartbroken Ballycanew family offers €500 reward for missing dog

- By ANNA HAYES

A HEARTBROKEN family has offered a reward of €500 for the return of their beloved dog Lola.

The eight-year-old Boxer-cross-Mastiff went missing on September 18 on Carrig Rua Hill, just outside Ballycanew. Her owner, Philip Davis explained that he had been out walking Lola and their two other dogs when Lola stopped to sniff at something.

‘I walked on because she knows the route and I figured she’d follow after us. But after about 50 yards I noticed that she hadn’t caught up with us and went back to look for her.’

However, after extensive searches around the area, Philip and his wife Mairead believe that the dog has been taken in by someone who is looking after her and is not sure who to contact about her. They believe that she got lost and panicked.

‘I don’t think she was taken but maybe has been found by someone - we hope that’s the case. We have posted all over social media about her so we are starting to think that maybe the person who has her is not technolgically savvy and hope that we could reach out to them through the newspaper.’

He added that, unlike in cases where the dog is simply wandering, no one has caught any sight of her and so they are hopeful that she has found a temporary home with someone. The reward, he said, would be paid with no questions asked if the dog was returned to them.

Lola is a beloved family pet that the couple, who are from Riverchapel, rescued seven years ago when she was approximately a year old.

If anyone has any information about Lola, please contact Philip on 087 614 1297.
