Rangers pay penalty

Holders Gorey Rangers crashed out of the O’Neills LFA Shield when they suffered the pain of a penalty shoot-out defeat against Straffan AFC at Ramstown on Sunday.

The sides were deadlocked at 0-0 after extra-time, but the visitors prevailed 4-3 on spot-kicks.

There are plenty of other Wexford sides left to fly the flag though, and Raheen are one of them after they chalked up an impressive 7-1 win over Finglas Rovers.

Peter Finn and Daire Bolger both netted doubles for the winners, with Dylan Whitty, Mark Cowman and Harry Cosgrave adding a goal apiece.

Michael Foley, Ryan Slowey, Devin Wall-Walsh and Jamie Wallace got the goals for Duncannon as they chalked up a 4-1 win away to Newpark AFC.

Wayne Doyle’s double earned Enniscorth­y Town a 2-1 win over Grange Woodbine, while local rivals Enniscorth­y United hit Redwood Naas AFC for six without reply.

Seán ‘Barney’ Murphy netted a double for United, with Ryan Dwyer and Darren Walsh (penalty) also getting in on the act.

Youth player Adam Casey scored his first senior goal for the club, while a spectacula­r effort from Peter Cullen was the icing on the cake in a comfortabl­e 6-0 victory.

St. Joseph’s chalked up an impressive 5-2 win over Donacarney Celtic in Kilmuckrid­ge, with Seán Furlong (two), Gary O’Leary, Conor O’Leary and Callum O’Reilly scoring for the hosts, while Harry Fitzgibbon and William Dunne got the goals for Tombrack as they edged out Bree United 2-1, with Eoin Fitzpatric­k replying.

Wexford Bohs enjoyed a successful afternoon on the road as they saw off Ayrfield United 3-2, with Graham Healy, Alan Flood and Martin Frayne getting the goals for the visitors.

Dwaine Smith (two) and Paddy Kavanagh hit the back of the net for Bunclody but their efforts proved to be in vain as they lost out 6-3 to Vale Wanderers, while Courtown Hibs were beaten 4-0 by Skryne Tara.
