Gorey Active Retirement group meets in the Loch Garman Arms on Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

All are welcome to attend to find out about the organisati­on and its activities.

Exhibition

An art exhibition by Gemma Lalor will be displayed in Gorey Library until Wednesday, October 31.

‘Magically Overactive Imaginatio­n’ aims to bring out a child’s inner imaginatio­n and an adult’s inner child through art.

Scrabble Club

Scrabble Club will meet in Gorey Library on Tuesday, November 20, at 7 p.m.

New members are always welcome.

Thank you

Friends of Local People with Multiple Sclerosis held a golf classic last month in Ballymoney Golf Club.

They would like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the golf and raffle, those who took part in the event, and to those who gave their time freely to help in anyway. The winners were from McGovern’s of Gorey.

The full total raised will be announced at a later date but all the support is very much appreciate­d.

Bibi Baskin

There will be an evening with Bibi Baskin on Tuesday, October 23, at 7.30 p.m. in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

Bibi is an motivation­al speaker and former TV and radio presenter. This is a wonderful opportunit­y to hear from Bibi about life, wellness, wisdom, stress management and much more.

She will talk about how her three-week holiday to India, last 15 years of her life, and how she embraced and learned so much from the Indian culture which she now applies to her life and shares with others. There will be a Q&A session afterwards.

LGBT

Gorey Library will launch a dedicated collection of books and DVDs exploring issues of relevance to the LGBT community on Tuesday, October 23, at 7 p.m. All welcome.

Old Folks

St Columba’s Old Folks Club will be celebratin­g a remembranc­e Mass for Dermot Dunbar in addition to a Harvest Mass on Wednesday, October 24.

Members of the club are also asked to note there will be no Old Folks club on Wednesday, October 31.

NWHS

North Wexford Historical Society’s next lecture will be held on Thursday, October 25, at 7.30 p.m., in the foyer of the Civic Centre.

Barry Lacey will give a lecture on the archaeolog­y and history of Ferns and surroundin­g area.

AGM

St Aidan’s Day Care Centre AGM will take place on Thursday, October 25, at 7.30 p.m., in the canteen at St Aidan’s, Millands.

Tea and coffee will be served afterwards. The minutes of the 2017 AGM and accounts are now available at St Aidan’s reception.

Page Turners

The Page Turners’ Book Club will meet to discuss ‘Little Bits of Sky’ by S E Durrant in Gorey Library on Tuesday, October 30, at 3.3.0 p.m.

New members are always welcome. Suitable for nine to 12-year-olds.

Halloween

A Halloween face painting workshop will take place in Gorey Library on Wednesday, October 31, at noon.

Learn how to paint your own face with Karen Croke. All materials will be provided. Suitable for eight years and up. Booking is essential through the library on 053-9421481.

Stories

Bedtime Stories for Children will take place in Gorey Library on Thursday, November 1, at 6 p.m.

SOCGA

Special Olympics Club Gorey Area AGM will take place on Tuesday, November 6, at 8 p.m., in the Loch Garman Arms. Athletes, parents and guardians are asked to attend. There will be a guest speaker on the night too.

Chess Club

Gorey Chess Club meets every Monday at 7 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. The club caters for both casual and competitiv­e players. Players of all standards including beginners are very welcome. Please ask for Seamus on arrival.

VTOS courses

The Vocational Training Opportunit­y Scheme (VTOS) for adult learners is now taking enrolments for September 2018/2019 courses. VTOS Further education courses are ideal for second chance adult learners over the age of 21 who are not in employment.

VTOS is situated across from Gorey Library in the Gorey Adult Education Centre.

Resource

A carers support group will run on the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Family Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. All are welcome to take part.

These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabiliti­es or who may fall under the autism spectrum.

RNLI

The Lifeboat Shop on the North Pier in Courtown will be open every Saturday and Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., until Christmas.

There will be lots of new product arrivals. Shop for gifts this year that help save lives at sea.

Toddler time

Toddler Storytime will take place in Gorey Library on Tuesday mornings at 11 a.m. Parents and carers should supervise their toddlers at all times in the library.

Digital skills

Gorey Library is facilitati­ng a range of free digital skills training workshops including basic computing, tablet and smartphone classes.

Please ask the library staff for details of the course providers.

Age Action

As part of the Digital Skills for Citizens Programme, Age Action plans to facilitate oneto-one training starting on November 5.

Jack and Jill

The Jack and Jill Foundation shop at number 1, Main Street, is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 5.30 p.m., excluding the bank holidays. The shop has a large range of items for sale and currently accepts donations of clothing, furniture and brica-brac. If interested in volunteeri­ng in the shop call in for a form.

The St Vincent de Paul furniture shop on McDermott Street, Gorey, welcomes donations of clean saleable furniture, including rugs, lamps, etc.
