COUPLE FULFIL THEIR DREAMS

-

SITTING in The Strand Cahore, it is hard to imagine that we are in Ireland. This perfectly placed Seafood Bar sits on top of a hill at the edge of the small fishing village of Ballygarrett 10 minutes from the centre of Gorey. Overlooking the Irish Sea since 1893, the views are spectacular. It is a very popular destination because of its timelessness and it holds a very special place in the hearts of many generations of locals and holidaymakers.

The Strand Cahore is a residential licensed premises, the only one in Cahore and has been run as a family business since 1939 by generations of The Horgan family and has been taken over by a young couple Patrick and Aileen Hanley both from Co.Meath & Co.Kerry respectively. There is a strong hotel pedigree at work here with this couple having managed the local Amber Springs and Ashdown Park Hotels for The Redmond Brothers six years ago before making a move back to Patrick’s home town of Kenmare to manage the 5* Sheen Falls Lodge and The Brennan Brother’s Park Hotel. The couple loved the Sunny South East so much that they had no hesitation in moving back in January of this year taking a ‘massive leap of faith’ and to realise their long-held dream of running their own business. Speaking with the couple, you can get the innate sense of pride that they hold for their work and this project being a labour of love for them both. It is their combined experience in the food and hospitality industry that makes the dining experience exceptional. Guests will be greeted with an array of fresh flowers, soft candlelight and most importantly to the couple, a warm welcome. They have recently refurbished the lounge which has been transformed in to a very attractive eatery by local Carpenter Michael Kavanagh, with beautiful panelling, soft greens and plush mustard tones running throughout, it is truly wonderful to sit back and enjoy their wonderful locally sourced fare.

Shortly after introducing food to this cosy pub, The Strand Cahore was approved and accredited by Good Food Ireland
