IFA seminar to focus on wills, inheritance and taxation issues

-

THE Farm Business and Farm Family Committees of the IFA are hosting a special seminar that will focus on wills, inheritance, taxation and post-budget issues. There will be a host of guest speakers on the night who will be able to provide vital advice to those in attendance.

Renowned solicitor James Staines will speak on ineritance, land transfers and wills, an area in which he has a wealth of experience.

Declan McEvoy is a chartered tax advisor and leads the IFAC tax team. He has over 30 years experience advising agri business clients.

They will be joined by Agri Consultant at FBD Joe Kavanagh and Liam Phelan, Financial Agri Advisor at AIB, who organisers hope will outline what kind of finances are available to farmers after what has been an incredibly difficult summer.

Chairperson of the Farm Family Committee Alice Doyle says that it’s important that farmers think about the future now.

‘It’s not something we like to think about, but it’s inevitable that we have to talk about wills and inheritance,’ she said. ‘We would ask members not to leave it until an untimely death or until illness kicks in. They should make these decisions when they are in good health. They require significant planning and advice, so it’s a good idea to start discussions early.’

Following the budget, farmers will also be advised on how to avail of all the tax credits and incentives available to them for what has been a difficult year.

The event kicks off at the IFA Centre in Ennsicorthy at 8 p.m. on Thursday night and all are welcome to attend.
