DRAMA FESTIVAL
Coolgreany Drama will hold their 2018 One-Act Drama Festival St Mogue’s Hall, Inch this coming weekend Friday to Sunday, October 26, to October 28, featuring nine plays from local drama groups and groups from other parts of the country.
The Coolgreany Festival is an affiliated Drama League of Ireland competition, with each group battling for points to qualify for the all-Ireland One Act Finals, to be held in Kilmuckridge from December7toDecember9.
Coolgreany Drama is delighted to have again this year well-known professional theatre director and actor Geoff O’Keeffe as festival adjudicator.
On Friday, October 26, the line up is: Specter’ by Don Nigro – New Ross Drama Workshop. A psychological thriller. ‘Lucy in the Sky’ by Tony Layton – Seumas O’Kelly Players (Loughrea, Co. Galway). A drama. ‘After the Picnic’ by David Foxton – Bridge Drama (Castlebridge, Co Wexford). A mystery.
Saturday, October 27: ‘Riders to the Sea’ by JM Synge – Wayside Players (Blackwater, Co Wexford). A tragedy. ‘After Renvyle’ by Ken Moroney – Bridgewater Theatre Group (Arklow). A drama. Wanda’s Visit by Christopher Durang – Blue Hat Players (Whitechurch, Co. Cork). A comedy.
Sunday, October 28: ‘Smile Handsome’ by Liz O’Hanlon – Bailieborough Drama Group (Co. Cavan). A comedy drama. ‘The Long Wet Grass’ by Séamus Scanlon – Sillan Players (Shercock, Co. Cavan). A tragedy. The Giant Killers by Eve and Andrew Pearson-Wright – Balally Players (Dundrum, Dublin). A drama.
Performances start at 8 p.m. on the Friday and Saturday, and at 7.30 p.m. on the Sunday. For advance bookings phone 087 2393651.
Following the festival, Coolgreany Drama will themselves be competing on the one-act all-Ireland drama competition circuit at festivals around the country with ‘Mr Foot’ by Michael Frayn, directed by Sally Stevens and featuring Maggie Murphy and Niall Hunter.
COMMUNITY ALERT AGM
The AGM of Coolgreany Community Alert will take place on this Thursday night, October 25, in the May Byrne House 8 p.m. Attendance will include Margaret Quinn Muintir na Tir Development Officer, and also a member An Garda Síochána Gorey, who will deal with Local Community Issues and the safety of our senior citizens in our local area. Please make a big effort to attend and support our community.
CAR AND TRACTOR RUN
Don’t forget the Car and Tractor Run from Coolgreany on next Sunday, October 28, assembling at 11 a.m., with a midday Sharp start. All proceeds in aid of Coolgreany Support Fund which is intended to support in some small way those who may need a small bit of help with maybe getting to a hospital or for some other reason that is justifiable. Refreshments will be served on return to the Coolgreany Inn.
