Schools across Gorey welcome county champs Naomh Éanna
THE County Wexford Senior Hurling club champions from Naomh Éanna visited a number of local schools last week to give local pupils an opportunity to get their hands on the cup.
The club members created history when they secured vic- tory in the final after an emphatic win against St Martin’s. It was the first time the club had ever contested the final.
When they visited the schools last week the players, who also celebrated squad member Jack Cush’s 20th birthday, were happy to pose for photographs and sign autographs.
By the time they were finished the players had visited literally thousands of pupils and it’s hoped the school stop-offs will inspire some of the children to follow in their footsteps and continue to fly the flag for hurling in Gorey and north Wexford.
The schools were delighted to welcome the players through their doors and they received a massive welcome everywhere they went.
Going into the final the local team was regarded as the underdog with St Martin’s fancied to secure another county title.
However, the Naomh Éanna players didn’t get that memo and from the off put in an exemplary display of top quality hurling all over the field to bring the cup north.
The school visits followed on from a rousing reception the team received when they came home to Gorey on the night of the final. However, as the pupils were told hard work pays off and now they will begin to focus their attention on retaining their title in the next campaign.
