Blues run riot

Big Oylegate-Glenbrien win

- DEAN GOODISON U15HR1S in St. Pat’s Park

OYLEGATE-G’BRIEN ASKAMORE 2-19 0-4

OYLEGATE-GLENBRIEN powered to an impressive victory against Askamore in the final of the Enniscorthy Guardian Under-15 hurling Roinn 1 shield in St. Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy.

The victors were just about kept in-check in the first 30 minutes (0-7 to 0-4 at half-time) but they simply proved too powerful in the second period, with scores coming all across the field.

Askamore simply had no answer to the power and strength of the Oylegate-Glenbrien middle third and spine.

The Enniscorthy District side had any number of superb per- formances but the diamond of Adam Roche, Ryan Cullen, Andrew Fitzhenry and Dara Casey were completely dominant.

In fairness to Askamore, they defended with great heart and determination in the first-half against severe pressure.

They had chances themselves, particularly from dead-balls, but not didn’t take nearly enough to put Oylegate-Glenbrien under pressure.

Conall Byrne grabbed three of his points in the first-half and Graham Curran grabbed a nice score amongst others. Askamore replied with points from Seán Kehoe (two), Colm Fortune and Brian Kirwan but trailed by three at the interval.

Oylegate-Glenbrien soon started to turn the screw. Adam Roche was on fire with three points and when Aaron Quigley registered, his side led by 0-12 to 0-4 after 37 minutes.

The first goal was always going to finish the game as a contest and it arrived when Seán Rowley pulled home from Paul Burns’ ball.

From there it was a procession of scores. Both midfielders got deserved points, Byrne brought his tally to six, and Dara Casey hit the net in the 56th minute with a classy low finish as Oylegate-Glenbrien ran out worthy winners.
