Actors impress in Coolgreany
TOP HONOURS went to Dublin and Cavan at the Coolgreany One Act Drama Festival last week held in St Mogue’s Hall in Inch.
Balally Players from Dundrum were the winners in the Open Section with their production of The Giant Killers, while Sillan Players from Cavan were named the overall winners in the Confined Section with The Long Wet Grass.
St Mogue’s Hall was packed to capacity on all three nights of the festival as nine groups from across counties Wexford and Wicklow fought hard to reach the All Ireland final, which is being held in Kilmuckridge this December.
Adjudicator Geoff O’Keefe said he was very impressed with the festival, complementing each group on their production.
Other winners were: Best Design – Sillan Players; Audience Award – Bailieborough Drama Group for Smile Handsome; Adjudicator’s Award – Megan Morahan from Bridge Drama and Liz O’Hanlon from Bailieborough Drama Group.
Confined Section: 1, Sillan Players from county Cavan, ‘The Long Wet Grass’; Best Director, Yvonne Seymour, Sillan Players; Best Performer, Eva Fidgeon, Sillan Players; Best Supporting Performer, Charlene Cadden, Bailieborough Drama Group.
Open Section: 1, Balally Players from Dundrum, ‘The Giant Killers’; Best Director, Gary Wall, Balally Players; Best Performer, Sean Murphy, Balally Players; Best Supporting Performer, Maura Lavelle, Bridgewater Theatre Group.
Coolgreany Drama group thanked the festival committee for planning and organising the festival and to those who made sure each night ran smoothly.
Adjudicator Geoff O’Keeffe was also thanked for his entertaining and informative assessments each night as was main sponsor Whizzy Internet.
