Curtain comes down on drama festival
Prosperous Drama Group from county Kildare and Take 5 Drama from county Cork were the overall winners at this year’s Gorey Little Theatre One Act Drama Festival.
Gorey Little Theatre was full to capacity on all three nights last weekend for the festival as nine groups from across county Wexford and beyond competed to reach the All Ireland One Act Drama Festival final which will be held in Kilmuckridge next month.
Adjudicator Alan Haslett, who has been involved in theatre for more than 40 years, was very impressed at how high the standard was.
Elaine Warren, niece of David Warren who was a valued member of Gorey Little Theatre that passed away last year, opened the One Act drama Festival in his honour.
Other winners were: Adjudicators Award – Wayside Players and Prosperous Drama Group; Confined section: 1, Take 5 for ‘The Librarian’, 2, Wayside Players for ‘Riders to the Sea’, 3, Kilmuckridge Drama Group for ‘A Tear Was Flowing’; Best Director, Eugene O’Sullivan for ‘The Librarian’ from Take 5 Drama; Best Actor, Fr Gerry for ‘A Tear was Flowing’ from Kilmuckridge Drama Group; Best Actress, Noelle Clarke in ‘The Librarian’ from Take 5 Drama; Open section: 1, Prosperous Drama Group for ‘Breathless’, 2, Moat Boat Naas for ‘What’s Left of the Flag’, 3, Balally Players for ‘The Giant Killers’; Best Director, John Lennon for ‘What’s Left of the Flag’ from Moat Club Naas; Best Actor, Brian McCarthy, Yossi; Best Actress, Suzanne Walsh in ‘Breathless’ from Prosperous Drama Group.
