NEW ROSS SENIORS

We ran our charity day for St. Vincent De Paul on Thursday and there was a very generous response to the appeal. A grand total of €500 was collected and will be presented to a representative of the charity next week.

Twelve teams participated and as usual the competition was mustard keen, and the Gods were kind to us as well, keeping away any rain until after the game.

We changed the starting markers to forward green and will continue to use these for the winter months, as it helps make the game more enjoyable for all concerned.

With the bunkers again out of play, we had very high scoring, proving that these old veterans can still rack up cracking good returns way above the 90 points target mark. Indeed, ten of the competing teams surpassed that magical figure.

Taking first place and the Paddy whiskey were Tony Redmond (18), Willie Whitty (18), Colin Casey (22) and Jamesie Wallace (22) with a fine score of 98 points.

Pipped at the post, being beaten by one point, were Jimmy Furlong (12), Seán O hUginn (21), Robert O’Dwyer (22) and Aidan Wallace (27).

Third place went to Martin McGrath (15), Richie Aylward (19), Martin Hartley (22) and Frank Boyle (23), with that quartet clocking up 95 points. We had only one nearest the pin winner, and that was Willie Byrne on the ninth hole.

All players are again reminded to be in good time for the draw at 10.45 a.m. sharp.

We will have our A.G.M. on Thursday, November 29, at 10 a.m. sharp, and the Christmas outing and dinner is planned for Thursday, December 6 (weather permitting).

The fee for that is €20 which will be collected on Thursday, November 29.

Best wishes go to our colleague, Larry Shannon, who is recuperating well after a recent knee operation.
