WEXFORD ENNISCORTHY 62 5

THE WEXFORD Under-14 girls recorded a big win over Enniscorthy in Park Lane on Saturday. It was their second meeting of the season, this time in the Leinster League.

Enniscorthy were quick off the mark, with strong centre Aoife Farrell getting the first try for the away team. Wexford’s Robyn O’Connor soon responded with a converted try.

The Wexford girls fought hard against a strong Enniscorthy side to put another five points on the card. The versatile Niamh Dempsey got a break in the defensive line and sprinted the length of the pitch to add another try to the scoresheet.

Not to be outdone, winger Ellie O’Mahoney made a break and performed an impressive run to score a try following some great defensive work from the Wexford side.

It was 26-5 at the interval, and Wexford opened the second-half with a converted try from O’Connor.

Wexford hooker Bronagh Boggan showcased her strength and determination to get the ball over the try line on her debut for the Under-14 side, after recently graduating from the minis section.

Robyn O’Connor made a break to add another five points before switching positions with full-back Molly O’Gorman.

This change of position saw O’Gorman score three tries in succession for Wexford and showcased her speed, power and ability to seldom miss a tackle.

The scoreline was no reflection of the talent and strength of the Enniscorthy players who put Wexford to the pin of their collar for the majority of the game.

Wexford Wanderers would like to thank the Enniscorthy girls and coaches for travelling to Park Lane for an enjoyable game of rugby.

The newly-formed and youngest-ever Wexford Wanderers girls’ team have made a great start, winning six of their seven fixtures so far this season.

These young players are progressing at a remarkable pace, which is a testament to their commitment to learning and developing as players and as a team.

Niamh Dempsey, Beau Callery, Robyn O’Connor, Ellie O’Mahoney and Molly O’ Gorman continue to showcase speed and skill in the back line, while Clea Stuart and Mia Quirke played skilfully at scrum-half.

Twins Andrea and Hazel O’Keeffe displayed impressive tackling skills after only joining the squad a few weeks ago. Fiona O’Mahoney was unlucky not to get a try after a strong run.

Prop Anna Dempsey delivered some strong ball-carrying and impressive tackles, supported by a formidable forwards pack who are all individually strong and, as a unit, a force to be reckoned with. Well done to all.

The girls continue their Leinster League campaign with a game on Saturday, November 24, at home against Virginia.

Training is every Monday and Wednesday from 7 to 8.15 p.m., with new players always welcome.
