Alanna takes top prize at Leadership contest

A STUDENT from the Loreto Secondary School will represent Wexford at the regional final of the Rotary Club Youth Leadership Developmen­t Competitio­n, after she won the county competitio­n.

Fifth year student Alanna Fusciardi Wallace was one of 62 student entries from across the county from which 14 students, one from each of the participat­ing schools, was selected to compete in the club final which was held at the Riverbank House Hotel.

Joining Alanna at the Club Final were; Oisín Tiernan (St Peter’s College), Aoife O’Neill (Presentati­on Wexford), Áine Murphy (Meanscoil Gharman), Julia Dziadek (Coláiste Bríde), Rhian Fitzgerald (Enniscorth­y Vocational College), Glen Rothwell (St Mary’s CBS, Enniscorth­y), Patrick McDonald (Good Counsel College), Nathan Doyle (Kennedy College), Jane Prendergas­t (St. Mary’s Secondary School, New Ross), Nikhitta O’Leary Doyle (Coláiste Abbain), Jack Tyrell (Coláiste an Átha), Breda Cushen (Bunclody Vocational College) and Ciara Murphy (Ramsgrange Community School).

The regional final will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Newbridge this year and Alanna will compete against club winners from Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Youghal, Fermoy, Clonmel, Newbridge and Naas. The top prize is a week-long Leadership Developmen­t Programme that will see the 24 winners from across the country travel to Belfast, Dublin and Strasbourg.

Chairman of the competitio­n, Karl Fitzpatric­k said: ‘On behalf of the Rotary Club of Wexford, I would like to congratula­te Alanna on winning a Club Final where the calibre of entrants was extremely impressive and I am confident that she will be a fantastic ambassador for Wexford.

‘Having witnessed the quality of the leadership skills displayed throughout the competitio­n, the future of Wexford is in very competent hands.’
