CELEBRATIONS AT THE WWETB AWARDS

- By PADRAIG BYRNE

THERE were beaming smiles all around the ballroom at The Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy as the Wexford and Waterford Education and Training Board (WWETB) held its annual awards night there. Almost 150 students were present on the day to collect their scrolls as they graduated in a range of different subjects.

Those graduating came from all over the county and were mostly part of the Back to School Educational Initiative (BTEI) which encourages people to up-skill and make the leap into education once again. The WWETB have centres in Enniscorthy, Wexford, Gorey and New Ross and all were represented at the awards ceremony at The Riverside. The initiative has been running since 2004 and in that time has given countless people the opportunity to return to education across County Wexford.

A broad range of subjects were covered, as students picked up their certificates for everything from childcare, healthcare and social studies, to horticulture, office skills and retail. Those graduating were congratulated on the day by BTEI Co-ordinator Mary Walsh O’Shea and AEO Mary Walsh. The audience was also addressed by Martin Murphy from Maudlintown who had graduated with his level 5 in healthcare and urged everyone, no matter what age they are, to give education a second chance.

Following the ceremony, those graduating joined with their families for photos and celebrations and there was a wonderful atmosphere as their achievements were

celebrated.
