Saoirse on Stage stars sell out Gorey Little Theatre

-

Gorey Little Theatre was full to capacity last week as Saoirse on Stage delivered an entertaining night filled with joy.

The variety concert included performances from 27 of those who attend the Saoirse branch of St Aidan’s Services. They have spent the last year rehearsing under the guidance of staff members.

The highlight act of the night was the ‘Eurovision’ where some dressed up as Ireland’s greatest acts such as Dana, Johnny Logan, Linda Martin, Eimear Quinn and Niamh Kavanagh. Each of the stars lip-synced to the songs and were judged by Dave Redmond from South East Radio, Pat Nolan, who played Barry from Fair City, and Margaret Doyle.

‘The judges said it was draw and they were all winners,’ said Susan Fortune, one of the organisers. ‘Other acts included a mime, dance routine and singing.’

Susan said the Saoirse Training Centre have already begun rehearsals for next year, which they are looking forward to. She added that this year the students were pushed just that little bit further and used a microphone for the first time.

‘It was just an amazing night for them,’ said Susan.

Saoirse offers training services to adults with intellectual disabilities. Programmes include work skills and sampling sports, dance, drama, arts and crafts, home management, computer skills, personal development and more.

A since thanks went to all who contributed to and supported the show.
