-

Festive spirit filled the night air in Kilmuckridge on Friday evening as the Coláiste an Átha Transition Year and Leaving Certificate Applied classes hosted their third annual Christmas market.

Transition Year entrepreneurs impressed visitors with an array of beautiful handmade gifts and crafts and the talented Coláiste an Átha choir entertained the crowds with popular Christmas favourites. The Leaving Cert Applied students enticed shoppers to try their delicious hot chocolate and freshly baked festive cookies.

Principal Elizabeth Martin said the market is one of the ‘highlights of the their school calendar’ and this year was no different.

Claire Carroll, an enterprise teacher in Coláiste an Átha, was delighted that all the students’ hard work had paid off stating that ‘the event provides important experience for the students for the upcoming Wexford Enterprise competition’.

Coláiste an Átha welcomed a host of outside vendors selling their handmade products and the school was delighted to include enterprise students from other Wexford schools too. They also welcomed fundraising stalls from the Irish Cancer Society and Sue Ryder Foundation on the night.

Students organised face painting, a knock a block carnival game and the Parents’ Association hosted a treasure hunt. The ever popular Elf Shooting Gallery return to the delight of the younger guests.

The school thanked the community for their continued support; the local business owners for donating the raffle prizes; the staff and students for all their hard work; Wexford Green Cert for sponsoring new lights; the Parents’ Association; and especially caretaker David and the LCA II students for helping to ensure the gym was perfect on the night.
