Camolin one step closer to €48,000 after ‘Four Weddings’ fundraiser
Camolin Community Development Association are one step closer to unlocking €48,000 that has been awarded to them through Wexford County Council’s Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The Association raised €5,500 by producing a rather hilarious Camolin version of ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ last week in the Ashdown Park Hotel, followed by a live wedding band and DJ till late. Once they raise a total of €8,000 they will be awarded the €48,000 to complete their Bann River Eco Walk project.
A total of 450 people arrived on the night to see some of Camolin’s wellknown faces put on an outstanding performance, with many demanding for the production to be put on again in the near future.
‘The feedback we got was amazing,’ said committee member Paul Kidd. ‘Everyone was just laughing from start to finish.’
Paul Gardiner from Camolin put pen to paper and wrote a piece based around Hugh Grant’s character and his group of friends from the iconic film, but instead it was centred on characters from Camolin village.
It was directed by Jimmy Kavanagh and music was provided by Mouse Carton. Afterwards, the ‘newly wed couples’ from the production had their first dance to music provided by Take 5.
‘Everyone got up and joined in after the play,’ said Paul. ‘A DJ played until late after this, it was a great night.’
At the moment, the Bann River Eco Walk includes a 720 meter walking track but the association would like to complete it with a boarded walk along the river Bann.
Camolin Community Development Association thanked everyone who has supported them, including director Jimmy Kavanagh, writer Paul Gardiner and the cast Brian McDonald, Jack Redmond, Brendan Cullen, Siobhan Gardiner, Paul Gardiner, Caitriona Graham, Cathy Carton, Liam Doyle, Dermot Somers, Donna Gardiner, Emma Carton, Seamie Higgins, Geraldine Murphy, John Doyle, Andrea McCann and Alison McCann.
