Carnew musical is a real hit with the audience
THE curtain came down on a successful and outstanding performance of ‘My Fair Lady’ last week by the Carnew Musical Society held in St Brigid’s Hall.
This was Carnew Musical Society 52nd production and was previously performed by the society back in 1994 when stalwart and Honorary Life Member Sean Hallahan played the part of Henry Higgins.
But in this year’s production, Sean played the part of Pickering which marked his 50th show with the society.
The audience enjoyed the many hits in ‘My Fair Lady’ such as ‘Wouldn’t it be loverly’, ‘I could have danced all night’ and ‘Get me to the church on time’, just to name a few.
Michael Dunbar, a long-time member of the Carnew musical family, once again took on the role of director and Honorary Life Member Lar Duffy made a return as musical director after taking a year out.
The brilliant choreography was down to talented Frances Ryan who joined the Carnew Musical Society family for the first time this year. She endeared herself to all with good humour and patience to teach those energetic dance moves for the show.
A spokesperson for the Musical Society thanked Jacinta Kavanagh for costumes; Marion O’Toole for hair and makeup; Kevin McEvoy for lighting; Denis and Louise Fox for signage; the hard working committee under the leadership of chairman Lorna Doran McEvoy; and to those who came to see the production of ‘My Fair Lady’.
