SOCCER NEWS

On Sunday, December 2, the men’s ‘B’ team were away to Ajax and collected maximum points with an emphatic 4-0 win. Ray O’Brien netted twice, slotting home a sweet goal after a tough tackle for the first score and then punishing Ajax by banging home a great free kick for the second. Nathan Dickson, who had already starred for the Youths’ team on Saturday, scored the third and then Robbie Donnelly connected on a great pass from Harry Ellix for the fourth.

The ‘A’ team were also away, sharing the spoils with St Leonards on a 1-1 scoreline. James Sweeney scored our goal and the team was unlucky not to win after playing excellent soccer from start to finish. The ladies’ game against Ross Town was postponed due to a bereavement in the New Ross club.

On Saturday the first., Pádraig Moran and Nathan Dickson were on target for the Youths in their 2-2 home draw with Wexford Celtic. In an exciting game, our lads dominated the first half but it was the visitors who scored first, 30 minutes into the game. Na- than pulled one back, pouncing on a rebound, only to have the Wexford side pull ahead again, just before the break. In a tough, demanding second half, neither side gave up trying for another goal and with only five minutes left, Pádraig Moran equalised. Pádraig and Daire Swords were the players of the match, both showing tremendous work-rate and committment.

The under-13s were at home on Saturday also, taking on tabletopping Rathnure, who won by 3-0. The sides were evenly matched in the first half and went in at the break 0-0 apiece. In the second half, Rathnure’s experience showed and they managed to penetrate our defence and score three goals.
