EVERYONE CAN NOW SIGN UP FOR THIS YEAR’S GOREY NIGHT RUN

- By SARA GAHAN

PLANS are well under way for the fourth annual Gorey Night Run in aid of North Wexford Hospice Homecare.

The popular event will take place this year on Thursday, February 21, at 7.30 p.m. leaving from Gorey Library.

The event, which has raised over €30,000 over the past three years, has firmly established itself as one of the biggest events in County Wexford. Last year’s run saw over 800 people take to the streets of Gorey and organisers hope that it will be a similar success this year. It is open to all ages and fitness levels.

The 5km route, which is similar to last year’s route, will see runners go along the Avenue, Main Street, the newly named Scholar’s Way, the road up to Creagh College, down to the Monument, down Paul Funge Boulevard and back to the Civic Square.

There will be some temporary traffic restrictions on all these routes at different times on the night between 7.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m., but marshals will be on hand to assist on the night.

Main sponsors Altura Credit Union are on board again along with other regular supporters, Redmond Hotels, Porter’s Bar, Frenche’s Bar, Beacon Hospital, Doyle’s Garage, Whelan pharmacy and CJ O Loughlin.

New sponsors this year include The Stables, The Fitness Tailor, Crossfit, Paddy Blues, Cousins Coach Hire, Hughie Doyle, Graphidia, Bastion, O’Gorman Solicitors, Bank of Ireland, AIB and Kavanagh Crane Hire, who have all come on board to ensure it will be the biggest night run in North Wexford.

The organisers are encouraging everyone interested in taking part to sign up online at popupraces.ie as soon as possible to claim a free limited edition Gorey Night Runner T-shirt. Entry is €15 for adults and €5 for under 16s, but entries will also be accepted on the night.

Runners and walkers taking part can look forward to a great night of fun, fresh air and refreshments. The organisers would encourage everyone to come along and join the fun for a really good cause.
