Frustration over vacant houses at Hunters Hill

-

The 14 newly developed vacant houses on Fort Road are a source of ongoing frustration for the Gorey Municipal District councillors.

Hunters Hill development is built and ready to go, but the houses have been lying vacant for the past two months.

Chairman Cllr John Hegarty said the members don’t know why the development isn’t being rolled out but said pressure needs to be put on the developers to make them aware that the situation isn’t acceptable.

‘The houses are sitting up there in the middle of a crisis,’ said Cllr Hegarty. ‘This is not our fault but it is something we need to check to see who is holding it all up.’

Cllr Joe Sullivan, who previously raised the matter, said they as councillors have a responsibility to support those waiting on the housing list and they have to be proactive.

‘We are in the middle of a national emergency and Wexford County Council has a responsibility,’ said Cllr Sullivan. ‘The victims are those on the list, we need to exert more pressure from the top level of the council.’

Cllr Hegarty agreed and said at least if pressure is applied by the council on the developers, people on the housing list will know the council is trying to address the situation. He said the members will continue to try to find out the reasons behind the delay.
