Application for change of use at Clonattin

-

An application to change the use of the ground floor of an existing partially complete building in Clonattin Village, Clonattin Upper from childcare facility to four apartments has been submitted to Wexford County Council.

Richard Kenny has requested permission to build three two-bed apartments and one one- bed apartment on the ground floor in the existing building. Change of use for the first floor of the building was permitted in 2016 making way for two two-bed apartments and two one-bed apartments. If this application gets the green light there will be a total of eight apartments.

Mr Kenny was granted permission in 2015 to use a part of the building as a retail grocery store.

Since then he tried to secure an anchor tenant to lease the shop with a view to leasing the remaining part of the building as a crèche.

The proposal for the retail unit had good interest but following an in-depth feasibility study from the franchise owners they withdrew their interest because of the close proximity of the main shopping hub and the existing extensive supply of convenience stores near the area.

An existing childcare facility – Clonattin Crèche and Nursery, which is located adjacent to the proposed building on the access road to the estate currently meets the childcare needs of the area.

In his application Mr Kenny said has had preliminary discussions with the housing section of Wexford County Council and they have expressed interest in the property if it is dedicated to residential use.
