ST CORMAC’S NEWS

The Youths’ team, to the delight of manager Phil Christophi, found their true potential in their last game, when they took on table topping Rosslare Rangers at home in Luke Foran Park. The visitors took an early lead and defended stoutly for the rest of the first half and so went in 1-0 ahead at the break. But the pressure proved too much for them and Ciarán Walsh broke through for what had to be the goal of the season early in the second half, leaving the sides level. Then Ciarán netted again, an even better effort, outside the left post, he hooked the ball over his own left shoulder to the far corner of the net for another spectacular score. Tom Fitzgerald completed the scoring with a cool calm considered strike minutes from the end. Full points were well deserved and with the top three teams in the league losing on Saturday, it leaves our lads with great hopes of salvaging something form their season. The under-13s went even further behind in their game against Killenagh on Saturday the 19th. but an Evan Dunne goal just before the break brought them back to 1-2 down. But a gutsy performance in the second half meant that they halved the points with Killenagh on a 2-2 scoreline, thanks to a lovely lobbed goal from Abran O’Neill.

On Sunday the 20th., an understrenght ladies’ team still managed to win, beating New Ross by 3-2 in a tight game. They also fell behind, going 0-1 down early in the second half after a tense scoreless first half. Not long afterwards Lorraine O’Connor brought them level and then put them 2-1 ahead with second goal. New Ross drew level in the last minute of the game, forcing extra time. Late in the second half of extra time, a well taken corner rebounded off a Ross player to giver our girls the win.

The Men’s ‘A’ team won through to the next round of he Neil O’Sullivan Cup on Sunday the 20th., beating Tombrack by 4-2 on penalties. They were 0-1 down at the break and drew level early after the resumption. However, despite dominating the game, they could not find the winner and with Adam Dunne pulling off two great saves in the shootout, they progressed.

The ‘B’ team were at home to New Ross Town and also won, beating the visitors by 3-2. Within half an hour, they were 2-0 ahead thanks to gaols from Nathan Dickson and Niall Finn but went into the break only 2-1 ahead thanks to an unfortunate oggie. A penalty shot, duly converted, brought Ross to level scores, 2-2 but Ray O’Brien, storming down the right hand side, finished a great pass from Nathan Dickson to clinch the 3-2 win.
