Lizzie was devoted mother and a great independent lady

-

It was with great sadness that the people of Gorey and surrounding areas learned of the passing of Eliz (Lizzie) Sheehan on January 15, 2019.

Lizzie passed away peacefully at home where she wanted to be with her children Debbie and David by her side.

Lizzie was a woman who first and foremost was a loving, devoted mother and a woman of great independence, strong in character, gentle and caring.

She spent her formative years in England training to be a nurse. Upon returning home she took up the position of supervisor in Gorey Leather Factory. She then went on to run her own catering business with her sister Margie in the Courtown Golf Club.

Following that, Lizzie opened up her hugely successful business ‘The Transport Café’, where she worked seven days a week right up until a few years before her passing – a testament to her strong will and work ethic.

Lizzie was a woman of huge kindness, often helping others in times of need that she never wanted any recognition for. She was also known far and wide for her famous brown bread.

She was always late for everything, including her own funeral! Her son and daughter took her for one last spin to Courtown Harbour where she went every day up until a few days before her death.

They arrived back at the funeral home at 3.15 p.m. although it was due to start at 3 p.m.

Funeral mass took place in St Michael’s Church, Gorey where Lizzie attended Mass daily. Afterwards she was laid to rest in her home parish of Craanford.

Her family are extremely grateful to all those who looked after Lizzie during her illness and to Fr Billy and Fr Felix, singers, readers, servers, and to Aidan Murphy Funeral Directors who helped to give Lizzie such a wonderful send off.

The family are overwhelmed by the huge attendance at her wake and funeral.

She will be deeply missed by her loving daughter Debbie, son David, granddaughter Dawn, son-in-law Philip, David’s partner Lorraine and also by her brother Simon, sister Rosie and all her nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Lizzie’s month’s mind mass will take place on Saturday, February 16, at 6 p.m. in St Michael’s Church.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
