Gorey Active Retirement is calling for new members

- By SARA GAHAN

GOREY ACTIVE Retirement committee is looking for an influx of younger members to help and support the work carried out by the group.

At last week’s AGM which was held in the Loch Garman Arms a spokesperson said that unless new committee members come on board Gorey Active Retirement will eventually struggle to provide the range of activities and events they currently enjoy.

John Brophy, PRO, said that as committee members get older they need younger members to help and support the workload. He said in most cases support of one to two hours a week would be great help.

More than 20 people attended the meeting and a particularly warm welcome was given to the two new members who joined the committee – Kay Farrell and Mary Gleeson. There are still three places available on the committee for any other members who wish to help.

The secretary read the minutes from 2018 AGM, while the treasurer went through the financial report. The election of officers then took place with no resignations or changes.

The committee is as follows: chairperson – Francis Shaffery; vice chairperson – Mick Wakelin; secretary – Ann Ward; treasurer – Sydney O’Reilly; PRO – John Brophy; organiser of tea dances – Kay Farrell; new memberships – Doreen Wakelin; organiser of tea dance and Christmas dinner – Judith Clough; support members – George Harmon, Anne Slator and Mary Gleeson.

Non members are invited to check out the activities by dropping into Loch Garman Arms on Fridays from 11 a.m.
