OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS members were reeling in the years last week at their special 30th anniversary concert in aid of St Aidan’s Day Care Service.
Shamrock Hall was full to capacity raising a total of €1,500 for St Aidan’s.
Committee member Helen Whelan said previous winners of Opportunity Knocks took to the stage to perform memorable acts from years gone by.
‘Thanks to everybody for such a great nights entertainment,’ said Helen. ‘It’s great to see such support for St Aidan’s and Opportunity Knocks.’
Due to a large number of entries coming in for Opportunity Knocks competition, which kicked off on Friday night, an extra third preliminary round has been added.
The second round will take place on Friday, February 15, while the third round is on Friday, February 22, in Shamrock Hall, Kilanerin. Entries are filling up fast and acts of all varieties and ages are encouraged to get their entries into Helen as soon as possible by calling her at 087 6429291 as places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The final is scheduled for Friday, March 1, in Shamrock Hall at 7.45 p.m.
There are junior and senior competitions in various categories, including singing, dancing, music, novelty acts, lip sync, recitation, with solo and group sections for some categories.
For the dancing category, anyone 11 years old and under is considered a junior, while for the rest of the categories 14 years and under is junior.
Two acts from each category will go through to the final night where a special judge will announce the overall winner.
Doors will open 7 p.m. nightly, with the concert starting at 7.45 p.m. Entry is €5 for adults and €3 for children. It will be a fundraiser for the upkeep of the parish hall.
