GOREY WICKLOW 26 3

THE GOREY J2s were also at home to Wicklow on Saturday and, after an even first-half, ran out comfortable winners in the end.

It was all square at half-time as both teams squandered chances, with Ben Porter and Cian Hadden penalties to show for all their hard work.

It took until the middle of the second-half for Gorey to finally crack the Wicklow defence, but once they made that breakthrough they were in clinical form and ran in three tries to win with an impressive 23 points to spare.

By the 60th minute two Hadden penalties had extended Gorey’s lead to 9-3, and they were starting to turn the screw.

In the 65th minute Gorey finally crossed for their first try, with a strong run from Jack Willoughby finishing off good teamwork and effectively ending the game as a real contest.

Eoin Walsh was next to get in on the act with a line break that took him from just outside the visitors’ ’22.

Cian Hadden converted to leave the score at 21-3.

Gorey kept the pressure up, and when Arron Davies crossed for their final try it put a gloss on what was a very close match for a long period, finishing 26-3 in favour of the home side.

Gorey had some good performances, with Cian Hadden, Jack Willoughby and Brian Brooks doing well in the backs, and Eoin Walsh and James Nolan the pick of the forwards.

Next up for Gorey is an away trip to Co. Meath to face Ashbourne next Saturday.
