Ballymac puts on after-burners to win Future Champion title GREYHOUND RACING
THERE WAS a huge crowd in attendance over the bank holiday weekend meeting at Enniscorthy dog track to enjoy a great night’s racing.
Four finals featured, and the 2019 Future Champion was the Liam Dowling-owned, trained and bred runner, Ballymac Inspeed, who put up a superb display to score a very impressive win.
Soldier Spy led the field around the opening bends, with Ballymac shuffled back to fourth place down the back straight, but there were four runners in contention still as they turned into the third bend.
Soldier was still in command, and Ballymac had to overcome a check at this stage and at that moment looked unlikely to catch the leader.
However, he put on the after-burners up the straight and powered to the line to lift the prestigious prize for the Kerry handler in an excellent time of 28.93 -30 slow.
The Boylesports Enniscorthy Leger was the other big final last week, and the consistent Rental Dispute, trained by Brian Ellard (Co. Carlow), flew the trap lids to lead.
She was always going to be hard to catch after that, although the favourite, Jaytee Spirit, loomed large between the last two bends.
Rental was not for catching and she opened up again on the run to the line to score a convincing victory in a fast 30.17 -30 slow.
It was a great night’s racing and it ended with the last two races won by local owners, with Matthew Fanning’s Harriestown Star taking race nine and Andrew Sinnott’s Nothingtosay scoring her 13th career win in race ten over the 600 yards distance.
It was lucky 13 for this very consistent performer for sure.
Well done to all involved in showcasing the sport of greyhound racing as it should be, and the huge crowd enjoyed a powerful night of sport.
