Academic excellence is recognised at Creagh

- BY CATHY LEE

CREAGH COLLEGE held its third annual academic awards ceremony which saw just over 40 students and their families come along to celebrate academic achievement.

‘There was a wonderful atmosphere, and the event is one of the highlights of the Creagh calendar as the students’ hard work and academic excellence in the lead up and during the State Examinations is recognised and celebrated,’ said Julie Tobin of the school.

Academic medals were presented to students who achieved top marks in high level junior and leaving certificate exams earlier this year.

Principal Paul Glynn reminded everyone that this success was a result of a combination of talent, hard work and dedication.

He also congratulated the students’ families for their continued support and encouragement, describing this as an integral part of their success.

Trophies were also awarded in each subject, presented by teachers.

‘A huge thank you to the many local businesses who sponsored the awards, and to the talented students and teachers who designed or created them. These trophies on display will serve as an inspiration to future generations of students, who great things are also expected from,’ said Julie.

Monica Santos was awarded for receiving the highest Leaving Cert results, after she earned 520 points in her Leaving Cert and has since gone on to study science in Dublin.

Transition year student Santhwana Saju received five academic medals as well as being recognised for receiving the highest junior certificate results.
