Three days of theatre drama
THREE days of drama were enjoyed by the people of Gorey and the surrounding counties as the One Act Festival made its return to the town.
The festival began when special guest Garry Lombard opened the first show on Wednesday, with those in the audience enjoying refreshments and snacks prior to the first night of drama.
With a total of nine plays taking place and amateur actors competing in both the open and confined section of the Drama League of Ireland competition, there was a buzz about the theatre all of last week.
It was north Wexford’s own Coolgreany Drama who came out on top, winning first place in the open section with ‘A Beginners Guide to Madness’ by Barry McKinley.
The play also won best play and best director, with Sally Stevens taking the prize for her efforts and Éadaoin Ní Lionáin taking best actress for her role as Crazy Gal Josephine.
The adjudicator award went to Niall O’Muirí for the script of ‘The Glass Asylum’, performed by the Bunclody Kilmyshall Drama Group.
In the confined section, the Navan Theatre Group took first place along with four awards in the section but third place overall here went to Kilmuckridge Drama Group.
The group were the first to perform at the festival with ‘The Donohoe Sisters’ by Geraldine Aron.
A spokesperson for Gorey Little Theatre said: ‘Congratulations to all our winners and well done to all groups for taking part.
‘We had three wonderful nights of drama and thanks also goes to our adjudicator Brendan Murray, for his knowledge and attention to detail throughout,’
Next on the dramatic agenda is the Coolgreany One Act Comedy and Drama Festival which takes place this week from Thursday to Saturday.
