Ambassador welcomed to Gorey
GOREY KILMUCKRIDGE MUNICIPAL DISTRICT welcomed Polish ambassador Anna Sochanska to the civic offices which saw a gathering of representatives from local government, Gorey Polish Cultural Association and associates of artist Eamonn Carter.
Welcoming the ambassador, Cathoirleach Malcolm Byrne and District Manager Michael Drea spoke about the deep rooted connected between the Polish community in Gorey and Ireland with Irish people, and how groups like Gorey.pl have helped to enhance the relationship ties.
Anna Sochanska was appointed as Polish ambassador earlier this month, and her trip to Gorey was just her second formal appearance.
During the evening, the Polska Eire festival was praised by all present and the ambassador was presented with gifts and crafts produced locally and she signed the distinguished visitors book.

Municipal District are keen to help out in as many of their activities as possible,’ said Councillor Malcolm Byrne.
After enjoyed a spread of Polish and Irish foods, the ambassador made her way down to Gorey Library to open the exhibition of Eamonn Carter.
The exhibition, which continues all this month, is entitled ‘Lest we Forget, Krakow 1939-1945’ and explores Carter’s paintings which are based on photographs taken by the artist on a visit to Auschwitz in Poland in the spring of this year.
