Cloughbawn coast into District final
CLOUGHBAWN MONAGEER-BOOLAVOGUE 5-9 0-5
CLOUGHBAWN ADVANCED to the final of the Greenstar Enniscorthy District Under-20 football Roinn 1 championship with a comprehensive victory over hosts Monageer-Boolavogue on Saturday.
The Castleboro boys got off to a quick start, with the superb Shane Kehoe getting an early goal as they dominated from the first whistle.
The victors were particularly impressive in midfield where both Eanna Doyle and James Dempsey excelled.
Doyle, Nick Walkden and Paddy Whitty all raised white flags as the game went on, and it was 1-4 to nil before Monageer-Boolavogue got their opening point through Ronan O’Leary.
The quality of Cloughbawn’s defending was there for all to see as they limited the hosts to just a second point before the break, this one from David Mernagh.
At the other end they were creating chances too, and goals from Doyle, Dempsey and Kehoe eased them 4-7 to 0-2 ahead at the break.
After the interval things were a little tighter, with the result a forgone conclusion. The reds kept battling away and added scores from Mernagh, Micheál Gahan and Conor Dolan.
At the other end, James Dempsey capped his own fine performance with a second goal to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Cloughbawn now advance into the Enniscorthy District final against Hollow Rovers, who have a hurling final to play first against St. Anne’s next weekend.
