A Christmas Bake Sale and coffee morning in aid of Wexford Women’s Refuge and the Simon Community takes place at New Ross Adult Education Centre from 10.45 a.m. till noon for two great charities. A raffle will also be held.

SANTA’S NORTH POLE EXPERIENCE

Enter the magical and captivatin­g world of the North Pole during Santa’s North Pole Experience, which will be on Wexford Quay this Christmas as part of Wexford Winterland.

Firstly, children and families will meet Ellie the Elf who will lead you into the Magic Forest. Then, the Enchanted Gates will direct you into the Elves’ Village. Children will also visit the Elves’ Workshop – normally top secret – but this special visit allows you to enter and meet the Grand High Elf, who is 2,000 years old.

Patch the Elf will then bring families, individual­ly, to meet and receive a gift from Santa Claus.

The cost of entry varies: children aged 3-12: €17; toddlers aged 1 – 2: € 8.50; children under 12 months: free; adults: €8.50. Children and toddler tickets include a gift from Santa Claus. ART EXHIBITION

Gorey Art Circle’s winter exhibition will take place in the Market House, Main Street, Gorey from Friday, December 6, to Sunday, December 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Wexford on Ice will take place on the Quay in Wexford Town right up until January 5. This authentic ice rink is one of the biggest in the country.

Stability aids are available for firsttime skaters and there is a dedicated kiddie rink and kiddie skates for the little ones. There will also be sensory friendly and wheelchair family skate sessions on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10.a.m. (These sensory friendly sessions will be free).

The cost is €11 - €48 (prices vary at off-peak times and for family bookings).

Off-peak adult – €13; off-peak child (12 years and under) – €11; off-peak family of 3 – €34; off-peak family of 4 – €40. Off-peak dates are Monday to Friday from December 3 to December 20. On-peak adult – €15; on-peak child (12 years and under) – €13; on-peak family of 3 – €40; on-peak family of

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4 AMBER SPRINGS CHRISTMAS TRAINS

Come and experience all on offer, from reindeer food to meeting Santa, Mrs Claus and all the elves before you take a trip on the train to the North of Gorey Pole. Trains run daily, but you must arrive 10 minutes early and tickets are €16 per child and €14 per adult. Make sure to dress warm as this is an outdoor event. DARACH MACDONALD IN GOREY LIBRARY

North Wexford Historical Society’s final history lecture of 2019 will take place on Thursday, December 5, from 7 p.m. in Gorey Library. Guest speaker Darach MacDonald from Clones, Co Monaghan who now lives in Derry City, will present a talk on ‘More Than Two Sides to the Border’. Listeners will get a better understand­ing of a missing part of Ireland’s historical narrative from the viewpoint of different communitie­s living on a border imposed between neighbours and family members. Perspectiv­es will include the experience of Ulster unionists in Monaghan consigned to the Irish Free State, the nationalis­t community of south Armagh, frontier loyalists from west Tyrone and others. Darach has spent most of his life flitting back and forth across the border. He is a profession­al journalist, the former editor of the ‘Ulster Herald’ newspaper group and author of five books, mostly about the border. Call the library on 053 9421481 to book your place.

BULLRING CHRISTMAS MARKET

Throughout the month of December, the Bullring market will transform into a Christmas Market with many extra Traders. It will have a great choice of locally handmade gifts and crafts as well as food and curios and will also give many Transition Year mini companies an opportunit­y to sell their wares. The market will be open on December 6, 7 and 8, 13, 14 and 15, and then from December 18 until Christmas Eve. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Sunday when it opens at 12 p.m.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7 NIGHT LIGHT ROAD RUN

Oylegate Vintage Club will be holding a ‘night light’ road run on December 7, to raise money for Pieta House. The event will begin in the village at 6 p.m. and will travel to Enniscorth­y where the vehicles will stop on the promenade. All money raised from the event will go towards the charity.

The Annual Christmas sale held in aid of Balloughto­n Church funds will take place on Saturday, December 7, at 2 p.m. in Balloughto­n Hall.

NIGHT OF MUSIC TO CELEBRATE TOM WAITS

On the date that just happens to coincide with Tom Waits’ 70th

birthday, there will be a night of music for charity (St Francis Hospice) in Kilmuckrid­ge Memorial Hall at 8.30 p.m. to celebrate his musical repertoire.

Many of Waits’ songs will be performed on the night, by a range of musicians, many local and some who are travelling from afar to give their time for the night. The aim is to raise as much money as possible for St Francis Hospice. Admission is €7.50 at the door.

CHRISTMAS COFFEE DAY IN CROSSABEG

The annual fundraisin­g coffee morning organised by Annis Kehoe is

being held in Kyle Forge, Crossabeg. From the time you step into the Forge, there will be a roaring fire and you will be warmly greeted with a cup of tea or coffee and lovely cakes and buns.

This year, Annis has again decided that all money raised will go towards the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn community centre developmen­t project at Garrywilli­am. During the event, there will be lots of tarts, buns, mince pies, Christmas cakes and puddings, jams and vegetables on sale, just in time for Christmas. SANTA VISITS KIA ORA FARM
