Ballycanew National School will be lighting up their school this year with a large outdoor Christmas Tree.
Buy a bulb and light up their Christmas Tree and remember a loved one who is not by your side this Christmas. Write a personal message on the cards provided and it will then be hung on the tree beside a Christmas tree light bulb and it will shine bright remembering your loved one.
Bulbs are €5 and can be got from the school office, Tina’s Hair Salon, Brooks, Day Break. All proceeds to Ballycanew NS Fundraising Appeal.
THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS CONCERT.
Internationally acclaimed soprano Deirdre Masterson and friends presents the ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ on Friday, December 20, in St Michael’s Church, Gorey. Special guests performances on the night from the Irish College of Music Theatre and Ballycanew NS Choir.
Mulled wine reception from 6.30 p.m. with concert starting at 7.30 p.m. Tickets €20, concessions available. Tickets available from school office, Gorey parish office, The Wine Buff and online with Eventbrite. All proceeds will go to Ballycanew NS Fundraising Appeal.
SPLIT-THE-POT
Congratulations to the Saturday, November 23, winner of the split-the-pot, Seán Kinsella and the prize money was €207. Congratulations. Thanks to everyone for their continue support.
ST PATRICK’S GAA LOTTO
There was no jackpot winner last week; winning numbers were 1, 9, 10 and 27. Larry O’Brien matched three numbers to receive €150.
BALLYCANEW NS REUNION
Ballycanew National School is celebrating 50 years of the opening of its doors on its current site this year. There will be a celebratory evening of reunion on Saturday, December 28, at 7 p.m. in the school. Past pupils, current pupils and the community are invited to join the celebration.
We would like any old photographs and stories from any time over the last 50 years, these can be emailed to secretary@ ballycanewns.ie or dropped to the school office. These will be returned to you. Please spread the word.
It promises to be a night of reminiscing and catching up with old school mates. Refreshments on the night.

Ballycanew Resource Centre will host the following. Teen club is on this week open for teens in the area from secondary school 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Open mornings for tea and coffee from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Community office open if anyone has printing or computer needs from nine.midnight.
Social media for small business classes start Tuesday, November 19, 10 a.m to midday – cost of €20 starting with Facebook Community cinema will return on Friday the 29th 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Computer classes run in conjunction with rural links will start in the next few weeks anyone interested contact Aislinn at 087 2127614. Classes are free of charge.
SANTA’S VISIT
Ballycanew Lights Committee would like to announce the arrival of Santa on Sunday, December 15, at 6 p.m. for the big switch on of our new Christmas Tree. Promises to be a great night. Come along and join in the festive atmosphere. Also Santa has left a Mailbox for the kids to post their Christmas letter on the night.
CHRISTMAS BAZAAR/ ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR.
A Christmas craft fair/bazaar will be held in Ballycanew National School on Sunday, December 15, from three 5 p.m. The School choir will get you in the spirit of Christmas with some carol singing, There will be craft stalls, envelope raffle, face painting, cake sale, tea and coffee and much much more. There will be activities for the children to do. The Ballycanew Parents Assocaition would love you to come and join them in an evening of festive fun for all the family.

CHRISTMAS IN BALLYOUGHTER
Ballyoughter National School presents to you our Christmas Experience 5.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Santa will arrive in style at 5.45 p.m. Tickets for the Santa Visit which includes a professional family photograph and a gift cost €13 per child, adults are free. Tickets are available to buy on Eventbrite or can be ordered through the school office.
If you just want to kick start the Christmas and enjoy some Christmas cheer it is an ideal family evening out where you can expect to enjoy all the festive cheer and excitement that comes with Christmas. There will be a live crib, children’s Christmas movie (under-12). You can chance your luck at the bottle stall. We also have a Christmas bake sale. You can keep yourself warm with our hot drinks stall. If this isn’t enough we have lots of other stalls including the essential reindeer food to ensure Santa and his reindeer’s are fully fueled to deliver all those presents.
We also have our Christmas raffle for a wonderful Christmas hamper, a professional photo shoot and lots more spot prizes so please spread the word to all family, friends and the wider community to join us for the start of the festive season.

Enrollment now being taken for September 2019 for Ballyoughter National School. Expression of interest forms also available for September 2020 intake. The youths skills and conditioning training also takes place on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to all boys’ under-13, under-15 and under-17 teams. Activities will help youth players to prepare for the demands of Gaelic games.

St Vincent de Paul will take up the annual Christmas Appeal collection at all Masses on the weekend of December 7/8. SVDP thank you for your generous support in the past and looks forward to your continued support in the future. All money collected will be used to relive financial stress for families locally.

BRIDGE CLUB
Come play bridge in Seán Óg’s Kilmuckridge Bridge Club, Upton Court Hotel, Kilmuck- ridge, Thursday mornings at 9.50 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start. No partner needed as we operate a joker system. We also play on Monday nights at 6.50 p.m. for 7 p.m. start, partner needed. New members welcome. TOM WAITS TRIBUTE NIGHT
On Saturday, December 7, come along to the Kilmuckridge Memorial Hall for a night of music celebrating the work of Tom Waits. As the date happens to coincide with his 70th birthday, many of his songs will be performed on the night, by a range of musicians, many local, some who are travelling to give their time for the night. Admission €7.50 and proceeds are in aid of St Francis Hospice. Doors open at 8.30 p.m. There will be a raffle on the night.
