SANTA’S NORTH POLE EXPERIENCE

Enter the magical and captivatin­g world of the North Pole during Santa’s North Pole Experience, which will be on Wexford Quay this Christmas as part of Wexford Winterland.

With the Experience taking up to 30 minutes to complete, firstly, children and families will meet Ellie the Elf who will lead you into the Magic Forest. There will be snow-covered Christmas trees glistening in the light of the moon and the glow of a Victorian lamp to guide you along the path. Then, the Enchanted Gates will lead people into the Elves’ Village where children can post their letters in Santa’s official post box. Children will also visit the Elves’ Workshop – normally top secret – but this special visit allows you to enter and meet the Grand High Elf, who is 2,000 years old.

Patch the Elf will then bring families, individual­ly, to meet and receive a gift from Santa Claus. During the visit, there will be plenty of opportunit­ies for people to take photos, plus there will also be a photograph­er there, taking photos you can purchase.

The cost of entry varies: children aged 3-12: €17; toddlers aged 1 – 2: € 8.50; children under 12 months: free; adults: €8.50. Children and toddler tickets include a gift from Santa Claus. Under 12 months tickets do not include a gift. You can book a toddler ticket for a baby if you wish.

ENNISCORTH­Y & DISTRICT CHAMBER BLACK-TIE BALL

Having officially been launched on Saturday, the Wexford Arts Centre Christmas Craft Fair continues with a whole host of festive crafts from across the county on display in the pillar room. Wexford on Ice will take place on the Quay in Wexford Town right up until January 5.

Stability aids are available for first-time skaters and there is a dedicated kiddie rink and kiddie skates for the little ones. There will also be sensory friendly and wheelchair family skate sessions on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10.a.m. (These sensory friendly sessions will be free, with the organisers just asking for a donation to a charity on the day).

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12 EVENING OF POETRY AND MUSIC

The Wexford branch of Amnesty Internatio­nal is hosting an evening of poetry and music in the Starview Café, National Opera House from 6 to 9 p.m. This is to mark Internatio­nal Human Rights’ Day (December 10).

Food and light refreshmen­ts will be served, and among the attendees will be Pat Collins. He will read work by his late brother, Dennis. We will be selling Christmas merchandis­e, including cards and calendars, and there will be an opportunit­y to participat­e in the Write for Rights campaign.

This event takes place at 8 p.m. in Rowe Street Church, Wexford, with performers including Michael Darcy of Corner Boy, Trish Gallagher and St. Peter’s College Choir. Money raised will go towards the developmen­t of an astro playing pitch in the college and also Wexford MarineWatc­h.

The Loch Garman Band will host a special concert of best-loved Christmas carols and seasonal tunes at St Iberius Church in Wexford at 8 p.m. This special evening will be hosted and narrated by Canon Arthur Minion and will also feature performanc­es from the Youth Band. It looks set to be a magical evening and will put you right in the festive mood. A large Christmas tree has been installed in the church and the lights will be switched on before the concert. No tickets required but a collection will be held in aid of the band.

A VILLAGE CHRISTMAS

Everyone is invited to Ballywilli­am as it becomes immersed in Christmas spirit from 2 p.m. till 6 p.m. Visit the area’s first ever ‘Live Crib’. Meet Santa and Mrs Claus and send your letters via our North Pole express post box. The Elves will be on hand for some kids’ art activities. Local crafts and Christmas trees will be on sale. Enjoy some carol singing with local choirs while you enjoy some refreshmen­ts, including mulled wine, mince pies, hot chocolate and kids’ treats. Donations greatly appreciate­d.

CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING AND CAKE SALE

Ard Aoibhinn’s Christmas Coffee Morning and Cake Sale will take place from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in Clonard Community Centre.

CHRISTMAS MONSTER BINGO

St Joseph’s Community Centre, Wexford will hold a Christmas Monster Bingo event, starting at 3 p.m. Doors will open at 1 p.m. There will be all cash prizes and Santa will arrive on the day.

CHRISTKIND­L MARKET

We are holding a German-style Christmas Market in Murrintown Community Centre from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can stroll around the craft stalls, shop for some last-minute presents or sit down and enjoy a freshly baked waffle or mulled wine. Santa is visiting at 3 p.m. and there will be arts and crafts to keep the little ones happy too.

All proceeds go to the Lochlann Doyle Fund. Lochlann has acquired a brain injury after a near drowning incident in 2010 and the funds are used to help with his ongoing recovery.
