Top spot consolidated after victory CITY OF DERRY ENNISCORTHY 17 43

- AIL DIVISION 2C at Judge’s Road

ENNISCORTHY’S long journey to Derry last weekend for their fourth away game in the AIL was an unqualified success.

On a dry blustery day they gave a vintage display of fast open rugby that produced seven quality tries.

Their first try came after seven minutes when flanker Brian Bolger broke off the back of a line out, three quick passes later found lock Tomas Stamp who barged over under the posts.

Midway through the half scrum half Arthur Dunne broke down the blind side before he off loaded to his brother Richard whose pace took him to the 22 metre line.

He passed inside to wing Ivan Jacob who touched down under the posts. Ivan Poole converted.

Derry were awarded a penalty and this was converted by their out half Alex Mc Donnell to leave the half time score at 14-3 in favour of the Wexford men.

Enniscorthy continued to dominate up front and ten minutes after the interval the visitors scored again from a line out maul when hooker Davy Murphy touched down.

On the hour, wing David O’Dwyer scored their fourth and bonus point try after centre Hugh O’Neill made good ground.

Ivan Poole again converted. From the kick off Derry responded with a try of their own when out McDonnell scored under the posts.

Enniscorthy immediately went up the other end and scored an excellent try from a penalty line out.

The ball was moved quickly across the back line and David O’ Dwyer scored again in the corner.

Enniscorthy were now 31-10 ahead.

They scored two more tries through Ben Kidd and Arthur Dunne to round off an emphatic performance.

The final whistle sounded after Kidd’s conversion.

Enniscorthy have consolidated their position at the top of the table with 33 points, two points clear of Skerries. They continue their AIL campaign at home next Saturday, December 14 in the Ross Road against Bangor at 2.30 p.m.
