O’Neill’s LFA Junior Cup

It was a good weekend for Wexford clubs in the O’Neill’s LFA Junior Cup, with North End United, Gorey Rangers and Glynn Barntown all coming out on the winning side in their third round ties.

North End secured a 3-0 victory over Dingle United at Grangegorman all-weather, with Adam Beary, Paul ‘Spot’ Murphy and Gary Delaney all hitting the back of the net for the Sky Blues.

Gorey Rangers travelled to Edenderry to take on Derry Rovers and it proved to be a fruitful journey as they edged out the hosts 2-1, with Adam Territ and Dylan Vickers getting on the scoresheet.

Meanwhile, Glynn Barntown came out on the right side of a remarkable clash with Wicklow Premier Division high-flyers Avonmore, winning 5-4 on penalties after a 6-6 draw.

Goalkeeper Dylan Furlong was the hero, pulling off a fantastic save in the shoot-out after an enthralling contest.

Glynn Barntown held a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes, with Robert Dempsey and Allen Colegate scoring, but the visitors hit back to lead 3-2 at the break.

Rioghan Crosbie drew the Wexford side level, but Avonmore got their noses in front again, before goals from Colegate and Dempsey gave Glynn Barntown a 5-4 advantage.

Avonmore levelled matters to force extra-time but Davo Miller edged the hosts back in front, only for the Garden county side to take the game to penalties with a goal with only a minute of extra-time remaining.

Seán Carmody, Paul ‘Patsy’ Malone, Rioghan Crosbie, Allen Colegate and Davo Miller all scored from the spot, while netminder Furlong played a pivotal role in the victory with a fine save.
