NEW ROSS SENIORS

It did not look good weather wise around ten o clock last Thursday morning as we gathered for our eagerly awaited Christmas outing.

But then the modern gadgets called I phones which among other things can tell you about the weather prospects started to give us hope.

They began relaying the pictures showing the weather front moving off into the Irish Sea and a fine day following was as accurate as could be.

The wind, however, was continuing at pace with a howling south wester sweeping the course but at least it was fine overhead.

Then the battle royal commenced for the above normal prizes on offer and players found the going rather difficult especially facing into the wind on most holes.

As usual, one team finished well clear of the chasing pack which meant that Dick Cuddihy (13), Dan Quigley (20), Brian Dolan (21) and Frank Boyle (23) took the honours with a great score of 98 points.

Three teams finished deadlocked on 93 points and count backs were needed to confirm the placings.

Deciding second and third places it went to the last six best scores to decide who was second and third.

By a score of (31/29), Pat Doyle (17), Andy Ronan (18), Phil Walsh (18) and Les Jastrebski (26) took the runners-up spot.

Eddie Keher (12), Jamesie Wallace (22), Robert O Dwyer (23) and Mick Wade (25) finished third with the aforementioned 93 points.

Placed fourth on the same score (93 points) came Jimmy Furlong (13), Peter Goggin (17), John Coleman (21) and Jamesie Murphy (24).

Fiffh prize: Tommy Ryan (17), Jimmy O Neill (17), Jim “Dublin” Ryan (25), Jim Kehoe (26), 92 points.

Sixth prize: Martin Carroll (12), Willie Kelly (20), Tony Sexton (23) and Mick Long (23) 90 points.

Seventh prize: John Browne (15) Jim “Ross” Ryan (18), Kenny Irwin (22) and Donie Cody (23) 90 points.

Eighth prize: Ray Shannon (15), Willie Whitty (20), Willie Naddy (23) and Fr Jim Curtis (23), 90 points.

Ninth prize: Denis Kirwan (16), Hughie O Connor (20), Aidan O Connor (20) and Tom Kent (26) 88 points.

10th prize: Patsy Farrell (20), Richie Aylward (20), Colin Casey (22) and Sean O hUginn (23) 88 points.

11th prize: Tony Harford (15), Mick Gannon (18), Larry Shannon (21) and Paddy Mahoney (21), 87 points.

12th prize: Michael Kavanagh (17), John Kennedy (18), Willie Wallace (20) and John Joe Murray (21), 85 points.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Philip Walsh on the ninth hole and Dan Quigley on the 11th.

Many thanks to Tony Harford for procuring a great array of prizes and to Anthony, Breda and the restaurant staff for the fabulous meal after the golf which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We play our normal outing next Thursday and also the following Thursday (19th) and we will resume after the Christmas break on Thursday, January 9.
