Ballycanew BALLYCANEW NS REUNION

Ballycanew National School is celebratin­g 50years of the opening of its doors on its current site this year. There will be a celebrator­y evening of reunion on Saturday, December 28, at 7 p.m. in the school. Mass of Thanksgivi­ng celebratin­g 50 years in St Moling’s Church at 6 p.m. Past pupils, currents pupils and the community are invited to join the celebratio­ns.

We would like any old photograph­s and stories from any time over the last 50years, these can be emailed to secretary@ballycanew­ns.ie or dropped to the school office. These will be returned to you. Please spread the word. It promises to be a night of reminiscin­g and catching up with old school mates. Refreshmen­ts on the night.

BUY A BULB FOR OUR REMEMBRANC­E TREE

Ballycanew National School will be lighting up their school this year with a large outdoor Christmas Tree. Buy a bulb and light up thier Christmas Tree and remember a loved one who is not by your side this Christmas. Write a personal message on the cards provided and it will then be hung on the tree beside a Christmas tree light bulb and it will shine bright rememberin­g your loved one. Bulbs are €5 and can be got from the school office, Tina’s Hair Salon, Brooks, Day Break. All proceeds to Ballycanew NS Fundraisin­g Appeal.

THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS CONCERT.

Internatio­nally acclaimed soprano Deirdre Masterson and friends presents the ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ on Friday, December 20, in St Michael’s Church, Gorey. Special guests performanc­es on the night from the Irish College of Music Theatre and Ballycanew NS Choir. Mulled wine reception from 6.30 p.m. with concert starting at 7.30 p.m. Tickets €20, concession­s available. Tickets available from school office, Gorey parish office, The Wine Buff and online with Eventbrite. All proceeds will go to Ballycanew NS Fundraisin­g Appeal.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to the Saturday, November 30, winner of the split-the-pot, Victor Tomkins and the prize money was €239. Congratula­tions. Thanks to everyone for their continue support.

SANTA VISIT

Ballycanew Lights Committee would like to announce the arrival of Santa on Sunday, December 15, at 6 p.m. for the big switch on of our new Christmas Tree. Promises to be a great night. Come along and join in the festive atmosphere. Also Santa has left a Mailbox for the kids to post their Christmas letter on the night.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR/ ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR.

A Christmas craft fair/bazaar will be held in Ballycanew National School on Sunday, December 15, from three 5 p.m. The School choir will get you in the spirit of Christmas with some carol singing, There will be craft stalls, envelope raffle, face painting, cake sale, tea and coffee and much much more. There will be activities for the children to do. The Ballycanew Parents Assocaitio­n would love you to come and join them in an evening of festive fun for all the family.

Ballygarre­tt BLOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in the Ballygarre­tt Réalt na Mara GAA Club blotto draw on December 2. The numbers picked were 3, 10, 19 and 21. The €20 luckydip winners were Lily McDonald, Glasscarri­g; Richard and Niamh; Eilish Brady, Riverchape­l; Liz, Ardamine Court; Aidan McDonald, Clonroche. Five Free Tickets Winner: Patrick Doyle. UNDERAGE GAA COACHING

Underage GAA coaching for beginners to senior infants boys is on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. in the Ballygarre­tt GAA hall.

All boys are welcome where they will be coached in a fun and enjoyable way on the skills of Gaelic games that helps to develop the health and social wellbeing of the child, and parents are asked to remain for duration of the session.

The youths skills and conditioni­ng training also takes place on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to all boys’ under-13, under-15 and under-17 teams.

POKER CLASSIC 2019 – The 11th annual Buffers Alley Poker Classic will take place in the clubhouse on Friday, December 27, at 8 p.m. Tickets, €20, are now on sale from club members or you can pay at the door on the night.

This Classic offers some of the best prize money and has become a firm favourite with card sharks in the county. There will be a Door Prize courtesy of Hammel’s Centra, Kilmuckrid­ge.

The final placings last year were Paddy Kinsella, Pat Donnellan, Nellie Farrell, Aidan Leacy, Paddy Breen and Tess Enright. All these players have compliment­ary entry to this year’s event. Aidan Leacy also had the First Poker and there was no Straight Flush or Royal Flush.

There will be refreshmen­ts served and the bar will be running promotions on the night.

COTS LTI (Kilmuckrid­ge Training Centre) Located at Cosher Centre (beside Kate’s Café) – we still have three places left on our course which will be a full time Level 4 in Office Skills.
