Motor dealer ordered to pay €100k to revenue

A motor vehicle dealer from Adamstown must pay the Revenue Commission­ers €109,374.25 after failing to declare VAT.

Patrick Wickham with an address in the Ballagh was investigat­ed by Revenue and as a result must pay tax of €58,579 which, when added to interest of €6,861 and penalties of €43,934.25, amounts in a total of more than €100,000.

In addition, Hacketstow­n Garden Products Limited in Sinnottsmi­ll, Castlebrid­ge must pay the Revenue a total of €80,647.04 after under declaring their VAT and solid fuel carbon tax.

The two sums were just part of 36 settlement­s owed to the Revenue as a result of tax default between July 1 and September 30 of this year. The total value of these settlement­s is €7,999,804.

Further to this, a number of Wexford residents were fined by the courts for other tax-related offences.

Loft insulator Laurence Lambert of Ballyranne­ll, Glenbrien in Enniscorth­y was fined €1,250 for this offence, he received a furtherfin­eof€3,750forfail­ing to lodge his VAT returns.

JW Fashions Ltd a jewellers with an address at 22 Hillcrest, Mulgannon were fined €1,250 for failing to produce books and records and Tuskar Property Holdings Ltd, registered at 87 Dorset Street Upper, Dublin 1 were fined €5,000 for the same offence.

A number of Wexford employees were penalised for the misuse of marked mineral oil.

Larry Cash of Corah, Tombrack in Ferns was fined €2,500 for this offence, Elizabeth Connors of 13 An Caisleán Maol in New Ross received a €3,000 fine for the same offence.

Patrick Connors of Poulmarle in Taghmon was fined €2,500 for the same, Sean Cousins a farmer from Ballycale in Gorey was fined €3,500 while building contractor Nigel Clarke Developmen­ts Ltd of Clough in Gorey were fined €2,500.

Those offenders were part of 125 cases involving the under-declaratio­n or non-declaratio­n of tax, offences which led to fines and penalties of €400,930.91 being imposed on those charged.
