Gorey guides are great Trail Blazers
GOREY GIRL GUIDES felt like they were on top of the world when they received the Irish Girl Guides’ Trail Blazer National Guide Award at a special ceremony held in Croke Park.
Described as the pinnacle of guiding, three local girl guides travelled with their leaders and families to receive the highly sought after award.
The girls were Ava Carroll, Amanda Redmond and Saoirse Maloney all of Seashell Guides in Ballygarrett, Gorey.
Leader Una Wafer said that it meant a lot to the girls and the brigade to get the award.
‘This is very important to us as this is the highest award achievable in Irish Girl Guides,’ she said.
On the night of the awards, all the young guides were praised for their commitment in completing the challenges and putting an individual stamp on tasks.
‘You are inspirational, you will inspire younger members and take your learning and experiences gained into your communities and wider society,’ they were told.
Being described as Ireland’s future, the girls heard that working hard clearly comes easy to them and that in the future, nothing can possibly stop them from becoming whatever they want in life.
The award presented to the Ballygarrett group was made in recognition of the successful completion of a series of challenges, including teamwork activities, outdoor survival skills, community service, global awareness and working with younger members of Irish Girl Guides to help them develop confidence, independence and essential life skills.
The fun has not stopped for the guides, as they got festive recently and set up a cookie stand at Gorey Shopping Centre and the ladybirds, brownies, guides and senior branches sold out in two and a half hours to their delight.
