Injury woes hit but news on Jacob is promising

-

ENNISCORTHY will move to put the injuries to key players behind them over the Christmas break.

Having enjoyed practically an injury free run through the opening series of games the side received a double setback in their victory over Bangor, injuries that could impact on their game, when they resume the second series of games with an away fixture to last Saturday’s opponents, Bangor.

Both David O’Dwyer (ankle) and MJ Doyle (shin) were stretchered off during the opening ten minutes of Saturday’s final game in the opening round series, injuries that could very well bring a premature end to their season.

However, team manager, David Wrafter, said more will be known over the coming days as to the extent of the injuries.

‘David (O’Dwyer) is an ankle injury, most possibly a fracture bone which will be ascertained following an ex-ray.

‘MJ (Doyle) is also a serious injury. It’s a shin injury. He is expecting surgery today (Sunday). They are serious injuries for both players who are wished well for a speedy recovery. They are huge losses to the side but that is where the squad comes in.’

Enniscorthy’s strength in depth will now be seriously tested.

‘It will be a massive step up for some players but the replacement have had much game time already.

‘Angelo (Todisco) is playing well while Cian (Wickham) has also been prominent as a replacement through the games so far. While the injuries took some gloss off the victory there’s no doubt the lads will re-group over the coming weeks,’ added Wrafter.

The news of Ivan Jacob is more promising.

‘Ivan missed the Bangor game with a leg injury. We did not want to gamble with him but he should be a available for the return visit to Bangor after Christmas,’ said Wrafter.

Enniscorthy who have increased their lead over Skerries to three points have got themselves into an ideal position.

‘At the start of the season we set out to be in the top four come Christmas.

‘Not alone have we achieved that but top the table. It’s a remarkable run of form which we now hope to take into the new year games,’ added Wrafter.

Enniscorthy resume their AIL activity on January 11 away to Bangor in their opening game in Round 2 when they will be hoping to maintain their pre-Christmas form.
