High fives for North End

Beary hat-trick sends them on way against Bunclody

- DAVE DEVEREUX in Hollygrove

NORTH END UNITED BUNCLODY 5 0

A SUPERB first-half hat-trick from Adam Beary set North End on their way to a comfortable victory in their Premier Division clash in Hollygrove on Sunday.

Shane Dempsey and Kyle Dempsey added to the Sky Blues’ tally after the interval as they continued to control the contest.

The home side continually picked holes in the Bunclody defence with slick passing and neat one and two touch football and it was clear from the off that they were going for the jugular.

Beary had his first sight of goal early on, but saw his effort blocked, but he didn’t have long to wait to grab the opener as he rippled the net with just seven minutes on the clock.

John Lester played a probing ball into the path of Beary and he curled in a beautiful long-range effort from the left-hand side of the area.

He doubled his tally just three minutes later when Shane Dempsey put him in the clear and the attacker kept his composure to slide the ball past goalkeeper Gary McClean.

The hosts continued to push forward in droves and John Lester had an opportunity to grab their third goal, but he headed Niall Connolly’s inswinging corner wide of the left upright.

Bunclody offered little going forward in the opening half, although Jay Somers did try his luck from distance in the 25th minute, but his effort was straight at goalkeeper Noel Heffernan.

Beary completed his treble seven minutes before the interval following a flowing move.

Gary Delaney sent Kyle Dempsey on his way with a perfectly-weighted pass and he squared for Beary who swept the ball home from close range.

Somers had another effort for the visitors moments later, winning back possession and shooting narrowly wide of the right post.

The second-half was only nine minutes old when North End added their fourth goal, with Shane Dempsey rifling in a ferocious shot from 25 yards after Niall Connolly’s dangerous corner was cleared into his path.

Substitute Ciarán Carthy fired wide from the edge of the area from another half-cleared Connolly corner and just before the hour mark Adam Beary put Kyle Dempsey in the clear, but he was thwarted by a good stop from Gary McClean.

At the other end Johnny Melay forced a save from Heffernan in a rare foray forward, but in the 68th minute it was business as usual as Kyle Dempsey got the goal his efforts deserved, taking advantage of hesitancy in the Bunclody defence before firing home.

North End could have increased their winning margin late on, with Kyle Dempsey forcing another good save out of McClean and Gary Delaney rising highest to head a Niall Connolly corner off target, but they’ll be happy with their day’s work.
