RIVER Lodge Equestrian of Wexford won ‘Irish Show of the Year’ at the national Showjumping Awards Ball held at Killashee House, for its hugely-successful ‘Avonmore Stables Summer Classic Show’.

Based in Bridgetown, River Lodge Equestrian is run by Michelle Kenny and Rafael Sanctuary.

In July, the Harpoonstown venue played host to the inaugural Summer Classic show which was kindly sponsored by Avonmore Stables, owned by Paul McGuinness, the former manager of U2.

The Avonmore Stables Summer Classic offered a range of classes ranging from 1.05m to the 1.35 Grand Prix. Mikey Pender claimed both the 5 & 6 Year Old and the 7 & 8 Year Old classes, and then went on to win the Grand Prix with HHS Matilde.

Offering a VIP package for those seeking an enhanced show experience, many enjoyed the superb food on offer in the arena side marquee.

Younger visitors were not forgotten, as there were plenty of activities to keep them amused, including a giant bouncy slide and a popcorn cart.

The Summer Classic also acted as a fundraiser for the annual Irish Breeders Classic Show.

Many people who attended this year’s event remarked on the very high quality of the venue’s grounds, including the purpose built grass and sand surfaces.

River Lodge’s attention now turns to the 2020 edition of the Summer Classic, which will run on the August Bank Holiday, promising an unmissable show jumping experience for competitors and spectators.
