Students make gift bags for charity

-

DOZENS of gifts bags were collected for the High Hopes Helping Homeless charity just in time for Christmas following a huge effort by the Gorey Adult Education Centre VTOS students.

The common area of the centre was stacked with gift bags filled with clothing like hats, scarves, gloves, socks, underwear, as well as food and hygiene products such as packet soups, shower gel, soap, face-cloths, toothbrushes, sweets or biscuits or even pens and paper.

The students themselves have also been working on knitting scarves and hats, and more than 70 have been knitted so far.

The drop off point was the centre at Gorey Civic Centre, and there was a cheery atmosphere as a large crowd gather to help out.

A spokesperson for VTOS said ‘On behalf of VTOS Adult Education Centres students, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved who made this possible for their generosity and support that showed through the donations that were given in aid of a growing cause.

‘It was amazing to see the whole community come together for a worthy cause, it would not have been possible without your generosity.

Thanks too to Tara Stores and the Wool Gallery for their generous donations,’ said the spokesperson.

Throughout the way the VTOS Adult Education Centre students have been working on events to contribute towards the homeless crisis in Dublin through collaboration with High Hopes.

Other events that have taken place were a darts competition that raised €200 and a very successful and a raffle that raised over €500. All of the money raised and donations that were provided by the local shops and community will go directly to the homeless through the High Hopes charity.
